Turkey Burgers:
1 lb ground turkey
Oil for brushing
4 Brioche buns
½ red onion – sliced with all rings intact
1 avocado – sliced
Salt and pepper to taste
Softened butter for toasting buns
BBQ Sauce:
⅓ cup ketchup
¼ cup apple cider vinegar
2 Tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp smoked paprika
½ tsp cumin
Salt and pepper to taste
Make bbq sauce by combining all ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat. Allow the sauce to simmer for 5 minutes. Set aside to cool.
Once bbq sauce has cooled, pour ¼ cup into a large bowl with the ground turkey with salt and pepper. Use your hands to combine well.
Create ¾-inch patties, brush with oil and cook on a heated pan for about 7 minutes or until heated through. Set aside.
Brush red onions with oil, season lightly with salt and pepper, and brown in a pan for about 6 to 8 minutes or until soft and browned on both sides. Cover and set aside.
Lightly spread butter on buns and toast in a pan.
Assemble the turkey burgers by placing the patty on the bottom bun, brushing with more bbq sauce, and topping with grilled red onions and sliced avocado.
